Can I charge time in 6-minute units?
Yes. By enabling the 'Charge in 6-minute units' option on the system settings page, ContactsLaw will do the following:
- Calculate charges on new journals by rounding up to the next 6-minute unit. Charges on existing journals are not affected.
- Display the number of 6-minute units in the 'Units' column on the activities tab.
- Display the number of 6-minute units in the 'Qty' column on itemised bills.
- Calculate charges on a bill of costs by rounding up to the next 6-minute unit.
This setting is non-destructive; journals will always contain the precise number of minutes recorded for each activity, however you may need to adjust the charge on existing journals if you decide to change the setting. If you use this option, it will apply to all bills for The Practice and any subsidiary companies.
Even though ContactsLaw offers this option, there are many compelling reasons why you should charge according to the default, per-minute basis:
- It is transparent and honest
- Electronic timesheets remove the need for mental arithmetic
- Recovery rates for per-minute charges are higher (should the matter go to taxation)
